There's A Part Of Your Hair You Didn't Even Know About!

(A screengrab from Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion)

Okay, so everyone who'd tried every texturising spray and serum a store could hold and had given up, BIG news! Scientists have discovered that there's a whole new component to human hair that we basically had no idea about...until right now.

There were three hair regions to clinical knowledge, till in pops a brand new zone; between the cortex and the cuticle.

"Hair traditionally has been constituted of three regions. Medula (central part of the hair), cortex (biggest volume fraction of the hair) and the cuticle (external part of the hair) says Project Leader Vesna Stanic. "What we've discovered is a new, intermediate zone, in between the cuticle and the cortex," she adds.

The study started out to figure out all the kinds of materials used in hair treatments, when Vesna got to thinking about the diffraction patterns of hair ; and the rest, as they say, is history.

The research was presented at the annual meeting of the American Crystallographic Association, held in Philadelphia.

(We're pretty sure what everyone's thinking. 'Hello! Could you pleasefix my frizz/dryness/oiliness now? #NoMoreExcuses!')

The potential health benefits of drinking green tea are almost countless. "The antioxidant EGCG has been studied to treat various diseases and may help with brain function, fat loss, and lowering the risk of cancer," says Snyder. "Polyphenols are another antioxidant plentiful in green tea and can reduce the formation of free radicals in the body, protecting our cells from aging and other diseases." Keep your sipping to one or two cups a day as green tea is high in caffeine, which is best consumed in moderation, says Snyder. As for which to buy: "It's great to use organic loose leaf tea or tea bags that contain loose leaves, which are higher quality and are less processed," she says, as opposed to tea 'dust.'
