As any young parent would be, 22-year-old mom-of-two Amy Poole was ecstatic when she found out she was pregnant with her second child in 2013. But when her son, Ollie, was delivered in February 2014, he was born with a golf ball-sized lump on his nose, which doctors later confirmed was caused by encephalocele — a rare defect that causes the brain to grow through a hole in the skull. Despite feeling scared for her little boy's health and watching him undergo multiple operations so that he could breathe properly, Amy says her son's smiling face kept her strong.

"After the operation, Ollie had a huge zig-zag scar across his head. He must have been in so much pain, but he just kept laughing," she told the Mirror. "His positivity made it so much easier for me."

On top of watching him go through intensive surgeries, Amy has also had to put up with obscene comments from cruel strangers, who say that Ollie is an "ugly" baby and that he "should never have been born."

"It's absolutely heartbreaking," she told the Mirror. "Once, a woman told me I should never have given birth to him. I nearly burst into tears."

Still, Amy refuses to let the hate get to her and says she is more than proud of her little one-year-old, who continues to be happy and bubbly through it all.

"I think he is absolutely perfect the way he is. There is nothing wrong about being different. He is my special little Pinocchio, and I will never stop loving him."
