The "Fuller House" Cast and Producer Officially Explain The Olsen Twins' Absence From the Show

Ever since news broke that Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen would not reprise their role as Michelle Tanner on Netflix's Fuller House, fans have speculated why they passed — while basically knowing the answer(s): They're super rich and famous. They are two adults (i.e. no longer babies/toddlers) and Michelle is one role. They ... don't care? I mean, it's fairly obvious.

But the cast and producers broke it down once and for all in a new interview with People.

For starters, MK and Ashley aren't as attached to the show as the rest of the cast, having starred in it when their frontal lobes were barely formed. "They're family members," Dave Coulier (Joey) said, "but I think they have a different perspective. When we get together and we reminisce, they were babies [at the time]. So they don't share those same memories. I can't really speak for them, but I would understand why they don't have the same sentiments that we all do."

They're also busy running a fashion empire, much like Michelle Tanner on the revival itself. "Lori [Aunt Becky] was talking to me about the twins and said, 'They just won a CFDA award," John Stamos (Uncle Jesse) said. "And I'm like, 'Yeah, that's like winning an Oscar.' It was them and Tom Ford. I get where they're at."

Finally, P.S., they don't act anymore. "Ashley said, 'I have not been in front of a camera since I was 17 and I don't feel comfortable acting,'" executive producer Bob Boyett said. "Mary-Kate said, 'It would have to be me because Ash doesn't want to do it. But the timing is so bad for us.'"

So there: (non-)mystery solved.
