Indian Scientists Claim that They Have Developed a Vaccination for Zika Virus

It is a proud *Made In India* moment in the country as scientists at a Hyderabad Lab claim they have developed the world's first vaccination against the deadly Zika Virus.

Bharat Biotech,  a city based vaccines and bio therapeutic manufacturer claimed that they began working on this virus an year ago and have finally achieved success in developing a vaccine to fight the dreaded mosquito-borne Zika virus.

"On Zika, we are probably the first vaccine company in the world to file a vaccine candidate patent about nine months ago," said Dr. Krishna Ella, Chairman and Managing Director, Bharat Biotech Ltd.  

The virus has affected more than 20 countries in Latin America and World Health Organisation has suspected its link to birth defects a global health emergency. Recently, a rare case of the Zika virus being transmitted through sex has been reported in Texas, USA.
