6. Rupert Everett auditioned for the voice of Gaston, but didn't land the part because producers didn't think he sounded arrogant enough. He eventually went on to voice Prince Charming in Shrek.

7. An original version of Gaston's death featured wolves killing him after he survived his fall from Beast's castle with a broken leg. This storyline was eventually used for Lion King instead. WOAH.

8. The song 'Human Again' was cut just before production started, but later added to the Broadway show of Beauty and the Beast and the 2002 re-release of the film.

9. 'Be Our Guest' was originally sung by the household objects to Maurice not Belle, as he was technically the Beast's first visitor to the castle - but when production teams realised it should be sung to a more pivotal character, they switched it.

10. The Beast was animated to look like a combination of several different animals, stealing features from lots of creatures. He has the mane of a lion, the head of a buffalo, the brow of a gorilla, the legs of a wolf and the body of a bear.

11. Originally, Chip only had one line in the film but producers liked Bradley Pierce's voice work so much that they expanded his role and gave him more lines.

12. John Alvin, the artist who created the iconic movie poster for the film also created the artwork for The Lion King, E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial and Gremlins.

13. Beauty and the Beast is based on Jean Cocteau's 1946 live-action film, a classic French film which featured a rival suitor for Belle named Avenant, who tries to kill the Beast upon learning that she loves him. It also included household objects coming to life.

14. The prologue was written about 200 times before filmmakers finally landed on the one you see in the final version, and it was only decided on mere months before the movie aired.

15. If you look closely at the sign post that Maurice comes across in the woods when he's lost, they read Valencia, Anaheim and Burbank - which all have significance to Disney World.

16. The final dance between Belle and the Prince was actually reused animation from Sleeping Beauty which sees Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip ballroom dancing. It was reportedly because animators were running out of time during post-production.

17. Jackie Chan voices the part of the Beast in the Chinese version of the film. He also had to sing, too

18. When Gaston falls at the very end of the film, Walt Disney never actually confirm that he dies, they only allude to it with the skulls that flash up in his pupils. HE DEEEAD.
