Under 18s Are Being Banned From Tinder

Since Tinder launched back in 2012, anyone 13 years of age or older and with a Facebook account has been able to use the dating app. However, that's all about to change, as anyone under 18 will be banned from next week.

Tinder has spoken about its "responsibility", and their official statement says:

"On a platform that has facilitated over 11 billion connections, we have the responsibility of constantly assessing our different user experiences. Consistent with this responsibility, we have decided to discontinue service for under 18 users. We believe this is the best policy moving forward. This change will take effect next week."

We were pretty surprised to hear that under 18s were actually able to use the app. Although anyone between 13 and 17 years old was only allowed to match with others within that age bracket, there have been concerns that people can fake their age on their Facebook account, and children may end up talking to adults for this reason.

Before their new age-restrictions were announced, Tinder's reasoning for allowing under-18s to use the app was to allow them to make new friends and connect with people.

Last week, the company announced plans to make the app more accessible to transgender people. They're yet to confirm exact plans around this, but we're all about the positive changes going on at Tinder HQ.
