10 Things Guys Love About Going on Vacation as a Couple

Taking your first couples vacation is a huge deal. This is the crucible, the Eliminator, of couple's events. You're trapped with each other for at least a long weekend, likely a week. You've got nothing but each other. A little trepidation is understandable, but rest assured he's seriously pumped for your getaway. Here's why:

1. Planning is actually kind of fun. If you're one of those lovable nut jobs who's obsessed with making laminated itineraries, the more complicated your vacation, the better. You've got plans for getting to the airport, a packing list, and hour-by-hour plans for each day to maximize your time. Part of the fun of going away together is living vicariously through the planning process, which basically makes the vacation feel like it's already started. If you start color-coding your various destinations though, you've probably gone too far.

2. Strap in for vacation sex. There's something about being in an unfamiliar place, like the woods or a hotel in St. Louis, that makes people crazy horny. I don't know if it's the idea of being somewhere new or having to use Google Maps to get anywhere that makes people ready to hump, but there you go. Stay hydrated, bring plenty of supplies and maybe a snack with protein in it. You're going to be having sex whenever you aren't sightseeing or eating.

3. There are absolutely zero responsibilities. No arguing over who does the dishes, or checking your phone for work emails. You can just focus on each other. Or on napping outside. Maybe napping outside together, if you want to Venn diagram those goals.

4. You're about to make everyone hella jealous with all your Instagram posts. Likes for days. And isn't that really the point of a good vacation? Making everyone else upset that they're still stuck at work, looking at your pictures while they hide in the bathroom for 20 minutes.

5. You're pushing each other out of your comfort zones. There's no routine to fall back on here. No "let's just throw on Netflix and cuddle." So you'll get to experience lots of new things and compromise so you can do something your partner is really excited about. Maybe you wanted to hike and your boyfriend is glad you dragged him along. Maybe he pulled you into a museum you never would've gone to on your own.

6. You're going to try new food ... maybe. It might be some spicy, flavorful South American dish or just-caught fish from a neighboring state, but no matter how far you go for your vacation, you're going to try new food together. Probably. Unless you're picky eaters. Or you're camping.

7. Your dates are extra romantic. Maybe you go to nice restaurants a lot because you're foodies ... but now you're at a nice restaurant in Italy. Or you're taking a walk along a sunset beach instead of the streets by your house. It doesn't take much effort to make any vacation date night feel extra special.

8. You're going to bond over insignificant little moments. Quiet downtime, meeting new people, chaotic plane rides, or getting lost in a busy city can all lead to fun little inside jokes and moments that will ultimately make you both feel closer together. Or, in cases like getting lost, moments that make you really angry at each other for an hour and then ultimately the whole closer together thing.

9. You could find "your" spot. This might wind up becoming your favorite place in the world. The place you talk about retiring in, and taking your kids to, and making it an annual thing. What you thought was just going to be a week in Aruba is now a place you feel tied to forever.

10. The memories. Whether it rained all week or you had the time of your lives, you're going to have memories you can talk about for as long as you're together forever. It's nice to know you'll have things to put in your scrapbook that you'll rediscover years from now or share memories that you'll laugh about every time they come up.
