David Spisak, 8, was first diagnosed with cancer when he was 2 years old. In March of 2015, David was re-diagnosed a fourth time — this time, he and his family have decided not to go through with treatment so that he can live the rest of his life as normally as possible. WKTR reports David has decided to spend his final days with his true love, a 7-year-old classmate named Ayla.

"In art class, I told her I liked her and she just had a surprised face so we started dating," David told WKTR. Ayla has since confirmed that she too loves David in the form of cards about how much she misses him at school and going out on dates with him.

According to ABC News, David and Ayla went bowling on their first date. After he brought her a teddy bear and flowers, they shared their first kiss. That same night, Ayla helped David eat pizza and walk out of his wheelchair for the first time in a month.

Somehow, people have criticized the Spisak family for allowing their 8-year-old terminally ill son to do something as adult as fall in love and go on dates. David's mother took to Facebook on November 18 to defend her parenting decisions: "No, we don't think it's 'forever, real' type of love and that's why it's so special; it's better than that and it's uncomplicated to them. They are in 2nd grade..it's a bond and natural connection."

David doesn't care what anyone thinks of his relationship. "She kinda looks like Snow White," he told WKTR of his girlfriend. "Actually, she is kinda like the real Snow White because she is so kind to everybody, especially me because she loves me." If that isn't true love, I don't know what we're all doing here.
