6 Bollywood Celebs and Their Unfortunate Racist Experiences

1. Priyanka Chopra

Hollywood hasn't always been as easy for Priyanka, as she makes it look. Our favourite Bollywood star, faced her fair share of racism, during her time abroad.

It started off during her school days in America, she was often referred to as 'Brownie', she revealed in an interview.

And then after bagging a leading role, in Quantico, she finally spoke about breaking Indian stereotypes, and said, "Everybody doesn't speak like Apu from The Simpsons. We all don't smell of curry. We all are not ugly-looking nerds, who are shy and always keep sitting behind their computers.

"Yes, we are very proud of our big families, but that doesn't mean that, 15 people will come out of every car. In global pop-culture, we are always represented like that."

2. Shah Rukh Khan

The Bollywood king, was actually detained at an International airport, because of his surname. Didn't he prove it enough, that "My name is Khan, and I am not a terrorist?" In 2009, when Shah Rukh flew into Newark Liberty International Airport, he was detained by authorities, who pulled him aside for further questioning, as his name cropped up on a computerised alert list.

This made headlines all over the world, and India went berserk over their favourite actor being caught up in a racist situation.

Believe it or not, Sonam has also been a victim of racism.

During an event, Sonam admitted that, "They see brown skin and they judge you already. When I go abroad people already have their perception, like we are always in parda (veiled) or our parents are very conservative."

Shilpa became the victim of racism, on the reality TV show, Celebrity Big Brother, in 2007.

The whole world saw how she was treated by her housemates, Jade Goody, Jo O'Meara, and Danielle Lloyd. She was mocked for her Indian accent and was called, "The Indian" and even, a "dog".

But shame on all the haters, because she overcame it all, and became the winner of Big Brother for that season.
