12 Shocking Confessions From Women Who Snooped on Their Partners and Didn't Like What They Found

If you've ever let paranoia get the best of you and snooped on a partner, you're not alone. From hacking a locked phone to peeking in a forbidden closet, these women got way more than their wandering eyes bargained for. Here are 12 confessions that might leave you trying to come up with a harder passcode for your phone.

1. "So my boyfriend at the time got a new iPhone and we hooked it up to my Macbook to set it up. In the process, we unknowingly had all of his pictures automatically syncing to my laptop when they were on the same Wi-Fi. One day, I opened my laptop to about 25 pictures of different naked girls. I didn't tell him and just waited to see what else would end up coming! Let's just say our relationship ended shortly after." —Kylee, 24

2. "My S.O. in undergrad had a crazy complicated swipe lock pattern on his phone. I would always try to crack it when he was in the shower, not expecting to find anything, but just to see if I could get in. He was really protective of his phone and would never let me hold it. So one day, I finally got in and found on Facebook messenger the same message sent to, like, seven girls, saying, 'Hey it's been a while, I miss seeing you around.' The worst part is that most of them replied something like 'We've met once, or 'We've never even talked.' I confronted him as soon as he got out of the shower, and he turned the blame to me for snooping! He never explained why he was thirstily trying to talk to random girls so I broke up with him shortly after." —Gin, 24

3. "I had gone away for a few months during the first year of our relationship for school. When I got back, I just had a feeling that something was wrong, so I snooped through my boyfriend's phone. I found that he was messaging guys and girls about sexual things, sending pictures and potentially meeting up during the time I was away. Now, I've been cheated on before, so I was straightforward with him and asked him about it. He didn't actually cheat on me, though it felt like it. We had a very long conversation about trust, honesty, and communication. He was so apologetic, literally on the floor crying. It took me a while to trust him again. We've been together five years now and that was a minor speed bump in our relationship. In the end, talking things out and sharing feelings is way better than fighting and holding things in." —Ashley, 26

4. "When I was dating my ex, we spent most of our time at his apartment because I still lived at home. I would stay at his place by myself often and he had one closet that he said was 'off limits.' Obviously I snooped so hard right away. For the most part, it was all junk and his vast shoe collection. But I found an old Altoids container and when I picked it up, it felt full. I opened it and it was full of nail clippings. I put it back and never said anything. It was the weirdest thing I have ever seen! I never spoke of it and brought it up about a year later. He ended up blowing up at me for snooping. Never found out why he had that ... We're long separated." —Cassie, 23

5. "I went through my boyfriend's phone one time, toward the beginning of our relationship, after a close friend who had just been cheated on advised me to do it. He was sleeping next to me at the time and I went through his Facebook messages, texts, and anything else I could find. I found nothing. Just innocent messages. I felt horrible and guilty and ended up confessing to him. It's not a way to build trust in a relationship." —Lo, 22

6. "I went through my ex's phone when he started to become very distant. We had been dating for seven years and I never felt the need to snoop until that moment. When I went through his texts, I found a conversation between him and his best friend Jon. There were texts saying that they loved each other and wanted to be together. My ex had texted him saying that he wanted to run away with him and leave me for him. They texted about how they couldn't even spend a day away from each other. It was absolutely crushing. Especially because I never knew that my ex was interested in guys, let alone his best friend who I hung out with so many times before. I confronted my ex and he denied it. Two days later, he dumped me for Jon and moved in with him. A part of me wished I never went through his phone, but I know it was better to find out sooner than later." —Hannah, 23

7. "When I was dating my ex, I decided to go through his stuff because why not. It's not like I didn't trust him or anything, I just wanted to see what his dirty little secrets were. I was in his dorm and when he left for class I got started. I looked through his closet, under his bed, in his dirty clothes. Just when I thought it was all good, I found it. In his desk, under all his papers, he had two videos of Russian anal porn! First of all, who keeps videos of porn any more? He doesn't even know Russian! Anyway, he never found out that I knew, but I never saw him the same again. I had to break up with him... It just freaked me out to much." —Hannah, 20

8. "About two months ago, I started noticing that my boyfriend of five years was acting a little off. I caught him whispering on the phone late at night and when I would ask him who it was he would mumble something about an old college friend. I became increasingly worried ... At this point, I thought he was cheating on me and I was utterly devastated. So instead of voicing my concern to him like an adult, I decided to snoop through his phone and desk drawers to try and find some answers. While going through his day planner, I saw that he was planning on going to a harbor front restaurant on Friday night. When Friday night rolled around, he told me he would be working late and wouldn't be able to make it home for dinner. I instantly knew he was lying and decided to show up at the restaurant to catch him cheating on me. As I angrily walked into the restaurant, the first thing I saw was my boyfriend on one knee with an engagement ring in his hand. Turns out he was planning a surprise proposal this whole time and knew I was getting suspicious. He decided to incorporate my suspiciousness into the proposal because he knew I would go through his things. I guess he just knows me too well!" —Serena, 25

9. "My boyfriend of four years broke up with me about a month after I moved to D.C. for him. I was shocked. While things were not perfect, it seemed very sudden. I let him stay in the apartment with me for a few weeks after. I noticed some odd behavior — he would take his phone to grab a glass of water or brush his teeth. I confronted him and asked if there had been someone else, and if that was the reason for the breakup. He said no, even offering that I could check his phone. The next morning, when we were getting ready for work, I decided to take him up on his offer while he was in the shower. I knocked on the bathroom door and said I had to brush my teeth. He said that's fine. I saw his phone on the sink, and with my heart racing, typed in his passcode. There were some explicit texts from his coworker. I immediately ripped open the shower curtain. He was the very definition of naked and afraid. He had the audacity to lie and say she was 'just a friend.' I don't know about you, but I don't text my friends about my panties ... Needless to say he moved out that day." —Renee, 24

10. "I was holding my boyfriend's phone one day during our freshman year of college. He got a Snapchat notification from one of our friends, so I checked it like normal. Surprise! I found out that he had been following a notorious porn Snapchat account at our college where girls would post nude photos and videos of themselves, and frat guys would post videos of themselves having sex with girls, or the aftermath. Things had been a ~little slow~ in the sex department and suffice it to say he tried to lie about the whole thing. When I asked, he said hadn't know what the account was when he added it. Things sort of blew up from there and we ended up having a huge fight. I probably wouldn't have cared if it was a random account, but knowing that he would see those girls on Snapchat and then in real life on campus somehow made it so much worse." —Kelsey, 20

11. "My ex boyfriend and I were together for four years. I wanted to make the next move in our relationship but he always shot the question down when I asked about marriage, so I assumed something was going on. I fell to a new low and went on his phone for the first time for all the wrong reasons. I checked his messages, there was nothing. I checked Instagram and nothing came up that was to be questioned. Lastly, I looked at his Facebook searches and found out he was searching for my best friend. So, I checked his Facebook messages and found out they had been texting for months. There were naughty photos and even more naughty texts. Days later, I went through his phone again. I read all the way to the top of their messages to each other. Every message tore my heart out. I learned that the two of them were meeting up every time he went out with his friends, which was almost every week. A day after I found this out, I bravely told him I was leaving him with a note. I wished him and my ex-best friend a happy life and went on my way. Yes, they are together now and seeing their photos online just kills me. I lost my best friend and my soul mate." —Jacqueline, 24

12. "I kept seeing my boyfriend's ex texting him and couldn't help but snoop through his texts one day. I found out he was dating both of us at once. I was under the impression he had dumped her and she believed the same for me. He wasn't very original and sent us both the exact same texts and had the same conversations with us both throughout the day. I reached out to her and we confronted him together. Neither of us are still seeing him now." —Amanda, 20
