5 IIFA Controversies That Shook The Film Industry

IIFA 2017 became the talk of the nation after a not so tasteful 'joke' was cracked on stage by Saif Ali Khan, Varun Dhawan and Karan Johar.

But, a chat with the ardent Bollywood lovers in team Cosmo directed our attention to other controversies that took place at IIFA in the past. From this long list of cold vibe exchanges, goof-ups and other civil and not-so-civil disagreements, we've listed below 5 controversies that continued to create a buzz for a long time.

1. When Kareena Kapoor greeted her ex Shahid Kapoor

Any encounter with an ex is awkward, and then if you add the presence of a current beau AND the whole nation to witness it, the situation becomes A.W.K.W.A.R.D. But, Kareena being Kareena handled it like a boss in the most graceful manner.

2. When the Bachchans gave IIFA 2010 a miss

The Bachchans have actively participated in IIFA since the year 2000. Amitabh Bachchan, who was the brand ambassador for IIFA since the initiation of this award decided to stay away from the event in 2010. The organizers had chosen Sri Lanka as the destination for the year to host awards without consulting with Mr. Bachchan and had roped in Salman Khan as the host. We can't say which one acted as the final nail in the coffin but he and his family did not budge on their decision to part ways with IIFA 2010.

3. When a fan breached security and grabbed Shah Rukh's thighs

We've read a lot of crazy things fans do for their fave celebs. But, the audience of IIFA 2011 became the witness of one such incident. An over-enthusiastic fan managed to breach security and ran to the stage to meet SRK. He grabbed the actor's injured leg and didn't let go despite repeated requests. The person was heard yelling that he wants to be an actor. SRK was kind enough to ask the security to deal with him respectfully and agreed to meet him backstage after the show.

4. When the yesteryear actor took centre-stage after reportedly being under the influence of alcohol

In the year 2002, Late actor Sadhna was given a lifetime achievement award. She accepted the award and gave her speech. Just when Karan Johar was escorting her to her designated seat, late yesteryear actor Firoze Khan climbed the stage and praised his co-star Sadhna in a drunk state.

5. When Priyanka Chopra chose a family vacation over IIFA 2017

While the IIFA updates were pouring on social media straight from New York, Priyanka was giving her fans major #VacationGoals from Maldives. In a press conference, Priyanka said she skipped IIFA to celebrate her 35th birthday with her family. However, a report by Mumbai Mirror states that Priyanka was unhappy with the amount of money she got offered for hosting the event. It was way less than what the male actors get offered for a similar gig. And so Priyanka decided to skip the event altogether.
