Priyanka Chopra Trolled Unabashedly for Posting a Family Photo with Indira Gandhi...Yet Again

We are a country full of ardent fans, obsessed with our Bollywood celebrities. We follow them on social media, enjoy getting minute-by-minute updates of their daily lives, and jump up instantly at the mere prospect of somehow encountering them!

But, an inevitable by-product of fandom is — opinionated haters who are ready to hurl them with uncalled-for insults, getting offended at the blink of an eye!

This is not even NEWS anymore, it's common knowledge that something posted on social media will garner hate comments along with praise, and those hate comments sometimes, just sometimes cross the limits.

People judge your upbringing and allegiances at the drop of a hat, and Priyanka Chopra is the latest victim of merciless, not to mention senseless, hate comments for her recent Instagram post.

Yesterday, she took to the platform to post a picture of her maternal family with Indira Gandhi. The picture featured the late Prime Minister of India smiling with PeeCee's mom, Madhu Akhouri Chopra, her aunt Neela Akhouri and her maternal grandparents.

And as always, there were a few people who were offended with PeeCee for posting—thereby supporting—the late PM of India.

Some of the 'enlightened' comments that poured in were as follows:

"Lost all respect for you. Can't believe you would glorify this mass murderer. You're such a hypocrite, working with UNICEF and then posting a picture of this witch who brutally murdered Sikhs during 1984. Shame on you!!! You disgust me!" (sic.)," the user commented.

"This woman is a mass murder??? How are you glorifying her? Shame on u. Doesn't it sicken you that she's putting a mass murderer on a pedestal [sic.]," another user wrote.

"It's always interesting to see u stand and celebrate someone that committed genocide. (sic.)," wrote yet another.

For those who are trying to understand why exactly such hate, Indira Gandhi was the first woman Prime Minister of India and was responsible for 'Operation Blue Star' in 1984, in which there had been a mass firing in Amritsar's Harmandir Sahib Complex to establish control, but unfortunately leading to the death of hundreds.

But the point here is, how people are quick to react to a harmless action like uploading an old photograph and calling out hate comments, and accusing her to be an ally of the Gandhi family. There was no need to criticise a person for an innocent Instagram post that marked the 33rd death anniversary of a politician, and hurl out insults at her. Remember freedom of speech? Yeah, that seems to be lost for a while now.
