Emma Roberts is the latest (unretouched) face of Aerie's "Real" campaign series, which showcases its models and celebrity ambassadors without any Photoshop wizardry. Emma spoke with Refinery29 about her campaign last month during the shoot, saying that she'd "actually never felt more confident and comfortable on a set - which is amazing, because you don't have that safety net." "But I saw the photos and was like, you know what? This is great," she continued, "this is just me, in clothes I feel good in, being who I am." The kittens pictured above were similarly chill.
Emma added that she'd been inspired by Aerie's previous "Real" campaigns, because "unlike other ads that make me feel like I need to work out more, or I need to buy this for my face, those made me feel good, not like I had to hide behind anything." She's apparently surprised other brands aren't "jumping on the [unretouched] bandwagon," and while that's easy for someone as beautiful for Emma Roberts to say on face value (Get it?) alone, it's also worth noting she's got a greater cause at hand. "It's important for me to be a part of this, because I see how hard it is for girls my sister's age [Editor's note: Emma's sister is 14.] with social media, and feeling like they need to look a certain way," Emms explained to R29. "I want to promote the idea that it's okay to look like yourself - you don't have to Photoshop your Instagrams!"
Likewise, in a statement released alongside the campaign imagery, Emma added that she "personally identifies" with the #AerieREAL message, saying, "I feel so honored to be part of a movement that reassures women that real doesn't mean flawed." "Real is sexy, real is cool," she concludes.
Aerie's Instagram account promises ~more~ unretouched photos will be released soon, and this is an occasion (perhaps that rare occasion) when that phrase "unretouched photos" is not likely to fill the celebrity pictured with dread.
