The CHIME FOR CHANGE campaign, founded by Gucci to raise awareness for girls' and women's empowerment, celebrated its new partnership with Global Citizen recently. This year at the fourth annual Global Citizen Festival, world leaders, celebrities, artists, and activists came together in New York City to support gender equality, and focus on putting an end extreme to poverty by 2030.
Beyoncé, who's one of the Co-Founders of the campaign along with Frida Giannini and Salma Hayek Pinault, headlined the festival with the likes of Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, and Pearl Jam. While Salma Hayek Pinault took the stage as a co-host.
Music has been an important facet of the CHIME campaign, and in the past Gucci and CHIME FOR CHANGE presented THE SOUND OF CHANGE LIVE in London, which was the first global concert event in history dedicated to girls' and women's issues. And this year, Gucci and CHIME FOR CHANGE (the presenting partners of the festival) welcomed 60,000 concertgoers to the Great Lawn in Central Park. The celebs in attendance included Michelle Obama, Jay-Z, Usher, Kerry Washington, Katie Holmes, Arjun Kapoor, Sunidhi Chauhan, Kajol, Freida Pinto along with many more.
The Global Citizen Festival also shed light on the UN's new Global Goals for Sustainable Development program, which represent key targets for the next 15 years. CHIME FOR CHANGE and Global Citizen are working together specifically around Goal 5, which aims to achieve gender equality, and empower all women and girls.
