Stop Press! Suneet Varma Has Joined the Cool Faces By The Sartorialist Project…

Suneet Varma is one of India's most celebrated couturiers and Scott Schuman is one of the biggest fashion bloggers in the world pioneering a genre of fashion reportage that was once an alien concept. And what happens when two such stalwarts combine forces? A fantastical fashion explosion!

An Oscar-nominated designer, Suneet has been chosen as this month's contributor for Faces by The Satorialist, a digital initiative that was launched by Scott Schuman in association with Luxottica Group to showcase personal style with a special focus on optical eyewear as well as artists who inspire and influence his work.

As this month's contributor, Suneet has created two fashion illustrations, that combined his love for fantasy and eyewear. His art piece represents a beautiful Indian Princess who is looking at a birdcage with two lovebirds through a whimsical pair of optical frames.

The first illustration depicts an Indian princess looking at her enchanted life ahead through a beautiful pair of glasses. She is dressed in elaborate Indian brocade, rich silks, and Banarasi fabrics, which are detailed with Indian motifs. She also dons a turban with a bejeweled feather, including exotic jewellery and a pair of lyrical glasses.

The second illustration features the use of embroidery along with the earlier sketching techniques, which is closer to what he does in his couture collections. The sketches are embellished with 3D rendition of ribbon flowers and small mirrors decorated with other elements like Swarovski crystals, sequin and glass beads. The pair of glasses that Suneet has designed for her this time is a scalloped frame the designer describes as "an enchanted paisley". Talking more about the collab, he says, "I've always believed that there is certain amount of fantasy that's attached to my artistic imagination that keeps me inspired," adding, "These two fashion illustrations display my belief as an artist and designer and highlight fashion and fantasy which is both elaborate and theatrical."

The other contributors who've been featured on Faces by The Sartorialist include different artists from various disciplines like the Italian fashion journalist, Angelo Flaccavento and British Visual and make-up artist, Alex Box.
