Steve Harvey Announced the Wrong Winner of Miss Universe and the Internet Can't Stop Laughing

Let's be honest. The Miss Universe pageant usually isn't anything to shout about, unless you're really, really into fancy dresses, sashes, and SERIOUS emotion. But this year's show had a teensy little mess up which made it pretty brilliant viewing.

Oh, and by teensy little mess up, we of course mean a monumental fuck up. As in, Steve Harvey, the presenter for the evening, announcing the wrong winner.

At the end of the pageant's proceedings, we were down to three finalists: Miss USA Olivia Jordan, Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, and Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez. Steve successfully announced that Olivia Jordan, AKA Miss USA, was the second runner-up. But then he got a little overexcited/confused, and rather than announcing Miss Colombia as the first runner up, he went ahead and announced her as the winner.

Rather than just accepting that this was far, far too awkward a scene and deciding to just go ahead and make Miss Colombia the winner, the organisers instead chose to send Steve Harvey back out to apologise.

Which he did, and dear LORD was it awkward. "I have to apologise," he said, as Miss Colombia waved graciously to the crowd while wearing the winner's crown. "The first runner up is Colombia. Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines."

He then explained that the card he was reading off was confusing AF, but begged the audience to blame him, not the women.

As awkward as that was, it only got worse. Because they then had to casually take the crown off Miss Colombia's head, and place it on Miss Philippines.

'And none for Gretchen Weiners, bye.'

Twitter erupted into all the piss-taking you could possibly dream of, with memes aplenty and general shouts of 'wow, Steve Harvey won't be getting invited to do this next year.'

Steve Harvey has of course apologised for what may be one of the most embarrassing onstage flubs of all time, so all is well. Except, um, he misspelled Philippines and Colombia. Then deleted the tweet.

But everyone's happy. It's all okay. We'll just leave this here.
