Hindu leader Rajan Zed recently released a statement that the upcoming X-Men movie, X-Men: Apocalypse, hurts Hindu religious sentiments by comparing the villain Apocalypse to Lord Krishna.
The trailer features Apocalypse, played by Oscar Isaac, saying, "I have been called many things over many lifetimes — Ra, Krishna, Yahweh." The character is also blue skinned, like Lord Krishna.
Zed, who is the President of Universal Society of Hinduism, says, " Such trivialization of Lord Krishna, who was highly revered in Hinduism, was quite inappropriate and disturbing to the devotees," he adds, "Lord Krishna was meant to be worshipped in temples or home shrines and not for pushing movies for mercantile greed of filmmakers."
Rajan suggests in his statement that "...all Hollywood executives should be sent for training in religious and cultural sensitivity so that they had an understanding of the feelings of audiences and communities when creating new products."
The movie makers are now being urged to remove all references of Krishna from the trailer and the final cut of the movie.
