25-Year-Old Who Thought She Was Pregnant With 1 Baby Gives Birth to 5

Manita Kumar was concerned at first when she went into labor two months early, but the 25-year-old gave birth to five unexpected girls April 2 at a Ambikapur, India, hospital instead of one unhealthy one as she'd feared, the Times of India reports. All five babies weighed 2 or 3 pounds at the time of their birth.

Kumar's husband Umesh told TOI he and his wife felt "extremely blessed" to have all the children, as Manita had a son two years ago who died shortly after childbirth. The couple had not been able to afford an ultrasound this time around and Manita felt completely normal throughout, so there was no reason to believe she was pregnant with anything more than one healthy child.

A more recent update from TOI said that while the mother has since been discharged from the hospital, the babies remain in the ICU. Four of them are suffering from jaundice and there is concern about their size. The parents were worried about how they were going to financially take care of the babies and all their medical bills, but the District Administration of Ambikapur is going to provide financial aid to the family.

Meanwhile, the parents admit to having confused the girls, whose names are Jiya, Jjanv, Jyoti, Jigayasa, and Janya. Best of luck to this suddenly large family!
