3 Cool Ways to Wear Culottes

If you are a pear or apple shape look for tailored culottes in a structured fabric that will hold their shape, that way the trouser will make the statement and skim over tummy and hips. If you are tall and slim, a loose flowing, palazzo style of culottes looks amazing, and beautifully elegant.

It is important to wear the right shoes and boots with culottes to ensure they flatter your legs. I am quite small so I need to wear (comfortable) heels with my culottes. In the Summer wedge espadrilles, heeled sandals or mules work well. If possible avoid a strap across the top of your foot; a court shoe works well for a work or a smarter look, they are also miracle workers at elongating the leg.

If you are taller flat mules or sliders work well. In the Winter wear with a heeled, knee high boot for a cool, 70s look. The great thing about culottes is that they show off your footwear, so have fun focus the attention on quirky, coloured shoes or unusual heels. As with all trousers try on a few different shapes to find a pair to flatter your figure and fit into your existing wardrobe look.

Once you have worn them you will wonder why you didn't buy into the trend at the beginning, as they are so incredibly versatile!

3 WAYS TO WEAR THE LOOK

1. The Summer look

I am a fan of a co-ordinating outfit; it's easy to wear and looks well thought out and 'put together'. This look would work just as well for a wedding as for a countryside picnic.

The culottes are a fabulous stretch fabric with a creased detail, so can be rolled up and put in a case with no worry of having to iron when you get to your destination. They have an elasticated waist (again so comfortable) and look great with heeled espadrilles.

There are lots of this style of culottes around on the high street from metallics to plain black. A great addition to your holiday wardrobe, they'll be cool and comfortable for sightseeing, wandering around a village market, or you can pair them with a fitted T-shirt and a pair of strappy light tan sandals for a laid back, stylish evening look.

2. The smart look

Tailored culottes are a practical solution for Summer work trousers; they keep you cool but also look smart especially when worn with heels and a silk blouse.

For added interest wear them with a pair of patterned heels for work - tan, dark red and mustard all look great with navy. Try out a few different styles to add a style twist to your look.

Dress down at the weekend with a Breton top and tan sandals. These culottes will be a hardworking item in your wardrobe!

3. The casual look

Denim culottes are fabulous. I live in mine! They are great for chasing kids around parks or day trips out, they can be dressed up for dinner or down for a day shopping around town.

These also provide the style solution to wearing jeans in the Summer without over-heating. They look great with a fitted shirt, a Breton top and or a denim blouse (I do love double denim!) as they are a neutral colourwise so you can pair them with any colour top and shoes and they will work. Easy, breezy and super stylish.
