You Can Create the Mirror Manicure of Your Dreams JUST by Using a Marker

Holographic and mirror manicures are having a moment right now and for good reason: They're insanely gorgeous and you can stare at them all day! To get the job done, you typically have to use nail powders, which is what gives your nails that holographic look.

YouTuber Twi_Star tweaked the formula a bit and created a mirrored watercolor design that's to die for using Sharpies! If you didn't know you could rely on this office supply staple for bomb nail art, let this be all the proof you need.

To recreate the look, you only need these three things:

  • Mirror powder
  • Sharpies
  • Gel polish

Twi_Star started out by applying the BMC gel nail polish in "Black Noir" to her nails.

Instead of using an LED lamp to get the gel polish effect, she shined an LED flashlight onto each of her nails that worked just as well.

Next to create the cool ~chrome~ look, she dipped an eye shadow applicator into this silver chrome powder (she recommends buying this cheaper version) and applied it to her nails.

She followed that step up by applying BMC gel nail polish topcoat in "Crystal Clear."

Here comes the fun part: drawing on your nails with a permanent marker! She suggests buying a 24-pack of Sharpies and using whatever colors you want to create the watercolor look. She went with blue, pink, and purple. Next, she used those colors on each of her nails, creating a checkerboard pattern.

To blend the watercolors together, she dipped a striper brush (you can pick these up at any nail supply or art store) into some rubbing alcohol and carefully applied a few tiny drops to each of her nails.

Voilà! Just look at how pretty permanent markers can look on your nails:
