Bollywood Celebs Reveal Shocking Stories of Sexual Abuse and Assault

Physical abuse is an extremely destructive and personal crime. Its effects on you and your loved ones can be psychologically and emotionally devastating. 

Several celebrities have faced sexual exploitation and decided to speak about it in public, reaching out to those who might have been going through it, or have been through the same ordeal.

1. Anurag Kashyap

It came as a shock to the world when Anurag Kashyap, the famous filmmaker, confessed to having been molested as a child. He further added that the assault lasted for over 11 consequent years. However, Anurag promises to have forgiven the pervert, to release the burden he'd have in his heart for the rest of his life.

2. Sapna Moti Bhavnani

Big Boss 6 contestant and celebrity hairstylist Sapna Moti Bhavnani came out in the open to narrate the horrifying tale of how she was gang raped at gunpoint in Chicago, on Christmas eve, when she was just 24. 

She was a victim of domestic violence even after getting married to her high school sweetheart. She felt lost in a world like that. It took her around 20 years to voice the traumatic incident and she shoves that a woman keeping it all within her because she has no other choice isn't a sign of weakness – it's a mark of strength and something we need to start respecting.

3. Kangana Ranaut

Kangana Ranaut spoke her heart out at the launch of journalist Barkha Dutt's book, 'This Unquiet Land'. The bold actor spoke about the time when she was physically abused and hit by a certain someone from the industry, who she didn't name, in her early days. She also recollected the time when she was stalked and hit by a man from Bollywood who acted as her mentor and godfather. She was 17 then, and was physically hurt. Even when an FIR was lodged against the man, he was just warned and released immediately.

4. Anoushka Shankar

Daughter of legendary sitar player Ravi Shankar, world famous sitar player ,Anoushka was also sexually assaulted as a child. She confessed that she was emotionally and sexually abused for many years at the hands of a man who her parents implicitly trusted. She revealed it at a video release for women's rights campaign group. She said she was supporting One Billion Rising, a movement started by American playwright Eve Ensler on the 15th anniversary of the V-day campaign, "for the child in me who I don't think will ever recover from what happened."​ 

5. Kalki Koechlin

Kalki shocked everybody in the industry and out, when she revealed her dark experiences of having been sexually assaulted as a child, she made this confession on a news channel. 

The actor known for her strong opinions on woman empowerment and her unconventional choice of movies, spoke about how she was sexually abused at the age of 9. She added that she didn't speak her heart out to demand attention and sympathy but to give others who have had similar circumstances the confidence to talk about it. 

At the age of nine, without understanding fully what it was, she allowed someone to have sex with her. She always cursed herself for being guilty and kept it hidden for years.
