And we thought WE were fans of the humble spud

This Man is Only Eating Potatoes for a Whole Year

Whilst we're all guilty of falling victim to the odd crash diet here and there, an Australian man had vowed to only eat potatoes for a whole year in a bid to lose weight.

But that doesn't mean it's going to be chips and mashtags (yes those are things that really exist) for 366 days, as 36-year-old Andrew Flinders Taylor is restricting himself to the humble spud and a 'little bit of seasoning'.

Speaking to 9news.com.au, he explained: "I wanted to change the way I thought about food so that it's not really controlling my life. 'Food is fuel' kinda thing. The last couple of years I've not been anywhere near as fit and active as I'd like to be, so I'm not happy about that."

He says that "the bulk 99 per cent" of his calories will be coming from potatoes, whilst the rest will be providing by seasonings and low-fat sauces - meaning he'll eat around 3kg of the veg in order to get his daily 2000 calories.

To put that into perspective, the average potato ways around 300 grams - so he'll be eating around 10 a day. AGH.

A month after starting his dietatoe (sorry), he'd already lost 1st 5lbs, but a dietitian has warned the health implications are way more serious than he might think.

The British Dietetic Association told Metro.co.uk: "By just eating potatoes for a year he is very unlikely to be getting all of the vitamins and minerals he needs. He is likely to miss out on iron, which will potentially lead to tiredness and, also, not consume enough calcium which will have an impact on his bone health."

Er, (apologies in advance) do you think he's using potaters to hide from the haters?
