16 Cell Phone Hacks Every Twentysomething Needs to Know

1. Hide your cash or IDs in between your phone and the phone case. You definitely don't need to lug around all your gift cards and credit cards at a music festival. Only bring the money and IDs you need, and slip them discreetly in your phone case.

2. Stick your phone in a plastic sandwich bag to prevent it from getting ruined. You'll still be able to access the buttons through the bag, and the plastic will protect it from sweat, dirt, mud, etc.

3. Change your phone background to a photo of your name and an emergency contact number in case you lose your phone. Type it into your notes app, take a screenshot, and change it to your lock screen. And then just hope that the person who finds your phone is a good Samaritan.

4. Screenshot travel directions and then turn off your Internet to save battery. Don't drain all your battery by relying on GPS during the drive to the venue. Instead, turn off your location services after taking the screenshot and refer to photos of the directions.

5. Take a picture of a landmark near where you parked your car so you can easily find it during the rush at the end of the day. Losing your car is the last thing you need when you're tired and just want to get home so you can shower.

6. Take screenshots of your online windows so if you lose service, you can still access the information. Festival venues are notorious for having bad cell phone service. If need to refer to a festival map, lineup, or other important info, but don't have service, you'll be glad to have it saved to your camera roll.

7. Switch your phone to airplane mode to make it charge faster. Bonus tip: If you're not expecting any phone calls, go ahead and leave your phone on airplane mode after it's charged. Your phone will use up more battery if it's struggling to find cell service.

8. Turn off cellular data usage for certain apps and features that you won't be needing to save battery. Go to the Cellular or Data Usage tab under your phone's Settings, and toggle off cellular data for specific apps that use a lot of your data. You can always #latergram your photos when you have more battery.

9. If the venue allows selfie sticks (Coachella and Lollapalooza have banned them), use yours to take photos of the stage when you can't see over a crowd of people. No more annoying hands and backs of people's heads ruining your pictures.

10. Press and hold the shutter button on your camera to take great action shots. If you get close to the stage, use this feature to capture lots of photos in rapid succession so you don't miss anything. Twenty pictures of your favorite DJ are better than one.

11. Use the front camera on your phone for softer photos and the main camera to take more detailed shots. Pictures taken with the front camera have an airbrushed effect (great for selfies) while the main camera is much sharper and better for taking distance shots.

12. When taking photos with one hand, use the phone's volume buttons as shutter buttons. It's much easier to grip and angle the camera and capture the photo this way.

13. If you've found the perfect camera angle but can't reach the shutter button, try plugging in your earbuds and using the volume buttons on the cord instead. This is a great tip if you want to prop your phone up and take the picture from a distance for a wide-shot selfie or a group photo.

14. Have your friend hold their phone's flashlight in front of what you're trying to shoot for extra lighting and brighter photos.

15. Cover the microphone when filming a video to make the sound clearer when you watch it. This will help eliminate some of the annoying, fuzzy sound and maybe even help muffle your embarrassing scream-singing.

16. Have everyone you're with download the "Find My Friends" app so if your group splits up, you can easily find each other again. The app allows you to follow the location of your friends on a map, which sounds a little creepy but is super helpful.
