WhatsApp is Going to Start Advertising and Nothing is Sacred

WhatsApp was the holy grail in the word of advertisement free apps, but things may be about to change.

WhatsApp will now share their users' phone numbers with Facebook (who brought them in 2014). They will apparently be used for the greater good. Well, to aid them in providing "more relevant" friend suggestions and advertisements. They believe it will also help tackle spam and abuse.

But WhatsApp have promised that our conversations will remain private, and users can also opt out of sharing their information with Facebook by following some simple steps...

1. When prompted to accept the updated terms and conditions, tap Read to expand the full text2. A check box at the bottom of the new privacy policy will let you opt out of the data sharing3. WhatsApp states Facebook will still receive data in some situations

WhatsApp will also start providing the services typically sent via SMS text message - such as airline flight alerts and bank balance updates, and they'll allow a few marketing messages to slip through the net.

I don't like it. I hate change. But tbf I was proper laying into Instagram stories a week ago, but now I'm partial to posting a cheeky snap every now and again. So in a few weeks you may catch me showing off how great and accurate my suggested adds are on Facebook. Although, that's actually pretty sad so ermm, probably not.
