5 Tips to Add Colour to Your Wardrobe

Gok Wan shares with us his top tips for introducing colour into your wardrobe.

1. Introduce a bit at a time. It can be scary when you're experimenting with colour for the first time, but don't feel like you need to overhaul your wardrobe all at once. Try introducing a pop of colour at first – start with a statement necklace or earrings. You'll be surprised how something so small can make such a big difference.

2. Accept compliments

If someone admires you in that magenta pink dress, rather than brushing it off, embrace it! Then make a mental note to look for magenta colour clothes when you're shopping. You'll feel great wearing them, knowing that you've been complimented in that colour before.

3. Take inspiration from your favourite colours.

If you have decorated your bedroom with flashes of blue, why not take inspiration and try on a blue top next time you're shopping for clothes? You might surprise yourself!

4. Experiment with patterns.

Experimenting with patterned clothes is a really easy way to introduce more colour into your wardrobe. Find a pattern that makes you smile – it might be floral, swirls or geometric. Chances are, it will have lots of colour on it.5. Add it to your beauty routine. Introducing colour into your beauty routine is a great way to add an extra splash of colour throughout the Summer – nails and lips are the most natural way to boost confidence and add vibrancy in to your wardrobe!

Four colours to make you feel confident:

Colour confidence expert Annie Ashdown reveals four colours that will release the confidence within.

  • Turquoise: demonstrates high self-esteem and self-confidence. If you're feeling tired or stressed, this colour will make you feel more empowered, confident and energised.
  • Magenta: A powerful colour. If it could speak, magenta would say 'I am a powerhouse, I have excellent negotiating skills.'
  • Gold: This colour lets others know you have high standards, and are not someone to mess with.
  • Mint green: If you're magnetised by this colour, it means you're generous, balanced, grounded and sincere.
