Game of Thrones fans were furious as spoilers flooded our timelines way ahead of the official air date of the fourth episode, 'Spoils of War'.
While we were patiently (well not quite) waiting for the next episode to air to find out the fate of our beloved characters, half the world had already seen it!
Apparently, hackers had leaked the episode prior to its release and blessed GOT fans who couldn't wait the extra few days.
The episode first appeared on a discussion board on Reddit on August 4th, two days before the episode's premiere. It was shortly removed but not before other piracy sites ripped it in low-quality format.
The masterminds behind the hacking were actually four Indian men, three of which are current employees of Prime Focus Technologies (a Mumbai-based data-management vendor for Star India), while one is a former employee. Mumbai police recently arrested them on the grounds of criminal breach of trust and computer-related offenses.
Star India gave a statement and said the "Game of Thrones" leak was first of its kind in the company's history. "We are deeply grateful to the police for their swift and prompt action... We believe that valuable intellectual property is a critical part of the development of the creative industry and strict enforcement of the law is essential to protecting it," they said.
Well, while we're on the topic of Game of Thrones, HBO Spain accidentally aired the sixth episode of the series as well, which is supposed to premiere on the 20th of this month.
Say what you have to but we're still jealous of people who got to see it 😈.
