This 'creative' is about 12 years old (it's from 2003), and was created by Chris Elvidge, a scientist at National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to highlight the country's population growth over the years. Even NASA's Earth Observatory confirmed the same saying it's a colour-composite image created from satellite photos over time.
