Did You Know About These 17 Scandalous Pageant Controversies?!

They may convey an air of perfection, but these beauty pageant queens (and sometimes their hosts) can crack. Over the years, pageant contestants have made headlines over drug use, racy photos, and controversial comments. Here are the most jaw-dropping moments in pageant history.

1. Pageant host Steve Harvey mistakenly names Miss Colombia the winner of Miss Universe 2015.

On Sunday, it seemed like Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez Arévalo's dreams had come true when she was crowned Miss Universe 2015 ... for about four minutes. Host Steve Harvey misread his cue card and crowned Miss Colombia the winner when it was Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurztbach, who had won. The crown came off Gutiérrez's head and went onto Wurztbach's, making for one of the most awkward moments in televised pageant history (and that's saying a lot).

2. Vanessa Williams resigns as Miss America after nude photos surface in Penthouse.

Vanessa Williams made history in 1983 when she became the first black woman to win Miss America, but her victory and accomplishments were overshadowed after nude photographs of the young beauty were released in the September issue of Penthouse magazine in 1984. Williams went on to have a successful singing and acting career in shows such as Ugly Betty and The Good Wife, and during the Miss America 2015 pageant in September, she received a live apology from pageant officials.

A few months later, she was dethroned from her title as Miss California USA when her sex tape surfaced. 7. Miss Teen Louisiana 2008, Lindsey Evans, loses her title after dining and dashing (and leaving behind a bag of marijuana) at a restaurant.

Unfortunately for Lindsey Evans, recreational use of marijuana in Louisiana was (and is) still illegal. Today.com reported that Evans left her purse that had a bag of marijuana in it as well as skipped out on a restaurant tab, but you can guess which one of the two led to her being stripped of her crown.
