Dying Twin Clutches His Sister's Hand in Stunning Sonogram

Brittani and Ian McIntire were not only shocked to find out they were having twins, but they were also heartbroken when they learned at their 6-week sonogram that one of the fetuses had a hole in his heart and an abnormal brain, KWCH reports.

Each subsequent doctor's appointment brought the Hutchinson, Kansas, couple bad news. While the boy, whom the couple named Mason, only weighed 9 ounces, his twin Madilyn weighed 2 pounds. "His only chance of survival would be heart surgery but they wouldn't do heart surgery on him because of his brain," Brittani told KWCH. But they were shocked again when their Tuesday sonogram showed the sick twin's finger holding onto his bigger sister's hand.

There's a chance Mason (pictured above on the left) might not survive the pregnancy, WAAY TV reports, but the sonogram image has given his parents comfort. "[Madilyn's] the only one who can actually be there and holding onto him through it," Brittani told the local news station. "So it's comforting to know that if he does pass, he won't be alone."
