Next season's trends you NEED to know about

Metallics

Sequins, sparkle and shimmering metallics were a mainstay across the London Fashion Week catwalks. It doesn't matter whether you choose full-on, head-to-toe sequins a la Ashish, or a more subtle shimmer like Temperley, as long as you're shining, you're doing it right.

Oversized outerwear

It probably won't come as a surprise that coats are going to be important this autumn/winter - because, you know, it'll be cold. Still, the coats that sauntered down the London Fashion Week catwalks were so much, well, MORE. Oversized, slouchy, long and with huge sleeves - anything goes, as long as it is big, bold and beautiful.

Pink

Pastel shades of pink brought the AW16 catwalks to life at Alexander McQueen, Preen and Holly Fulton. Paired with moodier, darker raspberry shades at Roskanda Ilincic, this pretty hue has got all grown-up for winter and we love it.

All-black

If you're the kind of person who wakes up and decides between six or seven different but kind of the same all-black outfits, this trend is going to make you sing. Top-to-toe all-black looks sauntered down the runways at Daks, Felder Felder and Simone Rocha but they were inventive, new and oh-so-exciting.

Bows

Not the sickly-sweet, worn-on-a-prom-dress kind - but the grown up, almost Gothic kind that turns an otherwise seen-before cape into something new and interesting. Topshop's were small and subtle, worn tightly around the neck or to tie together tops while at Roskanda and Preen they were un-apologetically large and dramatic.

Capes

Aside from oversized coats, the biggest outerwear trend from the London AW16 catwalks was capes. Capes of EVERY kind. At Alexander McQueen we drooled over long, etheral evening capes while at Gareth Pugh a workwear, camel cape made its way to the top of our must-have list.

Ruffles

Some were subtle - like in the skirts of the Peter Pilotto dresses or the sleeves in the Roksanda blouses - and some were less so, but they were all beautiful. J.W. Andersen led the way with this trend giving us ruffled mini skirts and dramatic polo necks.
