8 Reasons You Need to Take a Solo Road Trip

Whilst it's easy to bang on about how great a road trip with your best friends can be, it's important to appreciate some me-time now and again, too - which is why you should take a solo trip in your car when you get the chance. Why?

1. You can choose the music that you enjoy

Admit it: choosing the music when you're with a group of people can be daunting, and getting DJ anxiety is very real. But if you're by yourself, it's not a problem – so stick on Wham! (or your guilty pleasure equivalent) and sing like no one's listening, because guess what? They're not!

2. You don't have to worry about rushing

When your life is busy, stressful and a constant stream of coming and going, it's easy to forget how enjoyable driving can be. Find somewhere with beautiful scenery and just enjoy the ride, without worrying about having to be somewhere for someone at a certain time.

3. You get to choose exactly where you go

Having a car is great because it equals freedom, so make the most of this by choosing somewhere YOU want to go (not your boyfriend, best friend, niece...). Pack up your things and go by yourself.

4. You'll appreciate your independence

Seeing as a solo road trip means the only person you can rely on for directions/snacks/preparations is yourself, you'll learn to appreciate your own skills and independence without having someone else by your side.

5. You won't have backseat drivers

Ahh, backseat drivers are a constant struggle when it comes to being behind the wheel, aren't they? Avoid the stress of it by ditching passengers all together and going by yourself – the journey will be more relaxing than ever.

6. The only schedule you need to worry about is yours

When it comes to getting family or friends together, it's actually really hard to find a time that suits everyone, which is why a solo road trip is great. So long as it fits into your free time, you're sorted.

7. You don't have to share snacks with anyone

Seriously, is this not enough of a reason in itself? Plus, there's no one to judge you if you finish off that big bag of crisps by yourself.

8. You can basically do whatever takes your fancy

Being alone means you can take a longer route if you prefer the scenic roads, stop at as many services as you like and even visit friends along the way without worrying about it not suiting your passengers. Seeing as YOU'RE the only person that matters on this trip, see where the mood takes you.
