5 Make-Up Hacks We Learnt Backstage at Fashion Week

Ever wondered how those catwalk models look so damn cool? Well, this fashion week we headed backstage to see how the MAC makeup artists got them ready for the runway.

1. Lash enhancing trick

Backstage at Teatum Jones, lead makeup artist, Andrew Gallimore, revealed a clever hack for enhancing models lashes. After applying waterproof mascara, a clear MAC gloss was swept over the eyes. The extra step gave lashes a cool clumpiness (yes, that's a thing) which left them looking spiky and defined.

Whilst models wore the gloss over the whole eye, you can simply dab it over lashes for a more wearable take on the trend.

2. Cheat a naturally groomed brow

Statement brows took a backseat at Peter Pilotto's SS17 show, instead, eyebrows were 'naturally' groomed into a polished arch. How? Makeup artist, Val Garland, dipped a small fan brush into MAC's Prep + Prime Essential Oil, and brushed it over the brows to tame hairs and leave them looking softly groomed. Clever, huh?

3. The secret recipe for A* skin

SO many new beauty products are born backstage at fashion week, and most of them start with makeup artists mixing up their own cool concoctions. This season the most buzzed about beauty recipe came from MAC makeup artist, Netta Szekel, who created a 'Magic Mix' skin spray. Made up of MAC's legendary Fix+, their Softening Lotion, and a few drops of Essential Oils, the liquid was misted over models faces to give a beautiful dewy sheen.

We spotted the wonder spritz backstage at House of Holland.

4. Perfect the golden glow

Step away from your icy silver shimmers, for Spring Summer '17 gold highlighters are set to take over. Backstage at Brandon Maxwell, makeup artist Tom Pecheux used MAC's Mixing Medium, plus the Eyeliner and Eye Shadow in Goldmine, over the model's eyes and the tops of their cheekbones, the result? A golden girl glow that translates to every skin tone. ✨

5. Fake a natural flush

When it comes to blush, it's easy to overdo it, but backstage at House of Holland, we learnt the best way to apply a rosy cheek is to use the pad of your thumb/hand and press the pigment into the skin for a super-natural finish. Watch the video below to see the technique in action...
