Here's What Roles Kareena, Ranveer, Alia, and Others are Playing in Karan Johar's Upcoming Period Film 'Takht'
Can't wait to see how Vicky Kaushal portrays his negative character in this film!
After two years, Karan Johar is all set to sit in the director's chair with his newest directorial venture Takht, slated to release in 2020 as per his latest social media announcement.
Karan has yet again managed to bring the big names of the industry together for his upcoming project.
He has never made a period film before, and fans are super excited to see this uber-talented cast all roped in a single film! While everyone knew it is story from the Mughal era, there's some more info on what character will each actor in this glorious multi-starrer portray.
1. Anil Kapoor - Shah Jahan
According to a report in Bollywood Hungama, Anil Kapoor will play the role of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. He is renowned for introducing the magnificent Mughal architecture in India through many monuments all over the country, one of them being the Taj Mahal. The film is based on his story, and how his lineage fought for the throne or takht (as it is called in Urdu).
2. Ranveer Singh - Dara Shikoh
He was the eldest son and heir-apparent of Shah Jahan. After his kick*ss portrayal of the ruthless ruler Alauddin Khilji in SLB's Padmaavat, it will be refreshing change to see Ranveer essay a positive role in his third period drama film.
3. Kareena Kapoor Khan - Jahanara Begum
She hasn't played a royal character (the irony of it!) in her long Bollywood career, which is why it will be interesting to see Kareena play the role of Jahanara Begum, who was the elder sister of Dara Shikoh and Aurangzeb. Known to be extremely well-read and intelligent, she was very actively involved in matters of the court. Let's see how Kareena plays the part of this important character!
4. Vicky Kaushal - Aurangzeb
With movies like Masaan, Sanju, Raazi in his Bollywood kitty, Vicky Kaushal is steadily rising up the ladder to success and has won over everybody with his impeccable talent. This is the first time he will be seen essaying a negative role. Aurangzeb was one of the sons of Shah Jahan who fought with Dara Shikoh for the Mughal throne and ended up becoming the Emperor.
5. Alia Bhatt - Begum Nadira Banu
Alia Bhatt will be seen playing a Mughal princess, Begum Nadira Banu, who was the wife of Dara Shikoh. After Gully Boy, this will be the second film where Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt will pair up and we can't even!
There is no official confirmation on the roles played by Bhumi Pednekar and Janhvi Kapoor. It is rumoured that Bhumi will play the role of Aurangzeb's first wife, Dilras Banu Begum, while Janhvi Kapoor is rumoured to play a helper in one of the female harems in the Mughal empire.
Now that we know these deets on this epic film, it is even harder to wait for the film's release.
