The Palace Confirms Meghan Markle Is Breaking Royal Protocol With Birth Plan

• The royal family has given an official statement about Meghan Markle’s birth plan.
• Meghan will be keeping the news of her delivery hush-hush until she and Prince Harry have had a chance to “celebrate privately.”

Meghan Markle is due to give birth any day/week now, and there’s been a ton of speculation about everything from her birth plan to what hospital she’s delivering the royal baby in. And the palace has finally put out a statement. In a nutshell? Meghan’s keeping her private life private.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and around the world as they prepare to welcome their baby,” the palace said in a statement Thursday morning. “Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private. The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”This presumably means that Meghan and Harry will be (wait for it) breaking royal protocol and opting out of the traditional photo call outside the hospital Meghan gives birth in. It also seems to mean there won’t be an extremely ornate royal birth announcement outside Buckingham Palace. Nor does it appear that the royal family twitter accounts will post the announcement like they did for Kate.

Here’s an example of their tweet right after Louis’ birth, just so we all know what we’re missing: “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101 hrs. The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”

What remains unclear is whether or not there will be the traditional 62 gun salute from the Tower of London, a standard form of royal celebration when a baby is born. Buuut something tells me Meghan’s gonna pass.
