First lady of the United States Melania Trump, accompanied her husband Donald Trump for his ceremonial visit to the Rashtrapati Bhawan in Delhi today, post which she attended a 'happiness class' at a government school in the city.

White seemed to be the favoured sartorial choice for Melania in India. On Day 1, she was seen wearing a white jumpsuit by Atelier Caito for Hervé Pierre (Melania's stylist), her waist cinched by a statement sash made out of a green silk and gold metallic thread Indian textile. Speaking about the details of the garment Hervé Pierre said, " Arriving in India, the First Lady #flotus is wearing a white jumpsuit in crème crêpe. The sash was cut in an early XX century Indian textile documents I found in Paris through very good friends who are collectors. The sash is made out of green silk and gold metallic thread. We used the border which was the most Interesting piece we could use as it was a vintage piece." The French-born designer had previously worked at Oscar de la Renta and, more recently, at Carolina Herrera. Now working as a freelance designer and consultant, he is the same man Melania turned to co-design her inauguration gown in 2017.

For today's appearance, Melania was seen wearing a Carolina Herrera white cotton, floral-embroidered, shirt dress featuring a classic collar, a front button fastening, and a flared style. Her dress was accessorised with a red belt in classic Melania style. The first lady is known to be a fan of creating a defined shape by adding a belt or cinching detail to accentuate her waist, especially while wearing free-flowing silhouettes. Today's dress is described by the designer as "inspired by a Latin holiday that evokes playful and colourful moods and pulsating energy". For those who are wondering, this dress is part of Carolina Herrera's SS20 collection, and is available on Farfetch.com (for ₹ 1,71,396).It is embellished with multi-hued, floral threadwork embroidery and made from 100% cotton, making it an apt choice for a bright, sunny spring day in New Delhi.

Known to emulate Jackie O's iconic style, Melania Trump is a fan of tailored silhouettes and polished, groomed glamour. Both the outfits worn by Melania in India are in keeping with the former model's carefully curated political style. This is not the first time Melania Trump has chosen to wear Carolina Herrera. The first lady and first daughter Ivanka Trump are known to be fans of the designer's work. Melania wore Carolina Herrera on her recent visit to Japan in May 2019 and Ivanka wore a gown by the designer to Donald Trump's presidential inauguration ball in January 2017.

Taking a cue from Donald Trump’s 'Buy American, Hire American' proposal, both Melania and Ivanka are known to wear mainstream American fashion designers such as Ralph Lauren, Micheal Kors, Carolina Herrera. In keeping with this tradition, the 'Made in United States' label on this particular Carolina Herrera shirt dress could well be the reason it was picked to be Melania's outfit of choice today.
