Skin Firmness: 5 DIY Face Packs That Will Reverse Ageing

Ms Pooja Nagdev, Cosmetologist and Founder of Inatur shares 5 skincare solutions to combat skin ageing, using your basic kitchen ingredients!

Besides fine lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation, sagging skin and loss of firmness pose to be major signs of ageing as well. While weakening of the connective tissue, rapid weight loss, and pregnancy are front runners in the skin ageing process, the protein 'elastin' can be majorly blamed for this unfortunate turn of events. As we age there is a significant reduction in elastin and collagen production, resulting in noticeable signs of ageing, as mentioned above. Let's just say, after a certain point in time dark spots will no longer raise an alarm and unwelcome morning zits will become the new-normal. But....not just yet.

Ms Pooja Nagdev, Cosmetologist and Founder of Inatur shares 5 secret skincare solutions that'll do wonders for your skin. Ladies, the clock is ticking and we have absolutely no time to spare, so let's get to it!

"Popularly known for their long list of health benefits, egg whites are enriched with protein while honey is a powerful antioxidant that hydrates and nourishes the skin. They trigger skin cell regeneration, improving skin elasticity and firmness," informs Pooja. Separate an egg white and mix it with 1 tablespoon of honey. For those who suffer from dry skin, feel free to add a tablespoon of olive oil to the mixture. Beat it well to form a blended liquid paste, after which apply it to your face and neck using your fingers or a brush. Let it rest for approximately 10 minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water.

Coconut oil, along with coffee powder and rice powder make a powerful face mask that works fabulously well for skin firmness and tightening. "A rich source of fatty acids, coconut oil boosts skin hydration, while the antioxidants in coffee slow the ageing process and rice flour propagates firming of the skin," she adds. Combine 1 teaspoon of coffee powder, 1 teaspoon of coconut oil, and 1/2 a teaspoon of rice powder in a mixing bowl. Mix all of the above and apply to your skin and neck. Leave it on for 10 minutes and rinse with warm water afterwards.

Aloe Vera, a natural moisturiser, is best known to bring firmness to sagging skin. Take a leaf from the Aloe Vera plant and peel the coating to access the gel within. Apply this jelly-like substance to your face and back and leave on for 5 minutes. Rinse with water afterwards. "The direct application of Aloe Vera gel is ideal for those with oily skin, however, if you suffer from dry skin, add a few drops of sesame seed oil or rosehip oil to the fresh gel obtained from the plant," states Pooja.

"Well-known for it's cooling and hydrating properties, cucumber is most suitable for those with highly sensitive skin. Mint, another cooling ingredient works well in minimising open pores, thereby making the skin tight and firm," she adds. Grind half a cucumber and 10-15 mint leaves and blitz it in a blender. Apply this paste to your face and let it sit for 15 minutes. Next, rinse your face with water and pat dry.
