M.A.C’s Viva Glam is one of the most iconic lipstick ranges...like ever! And since 1994, M.A.C has been donating 100% of its sale proceeds from the range to the M.A.C Viva Glam Fund, which supports a healthy future and equal rights for all—raising $500,000,000 globally (and counting)! To celebrate 26 years of the same, the brand has launched a new red-hot shade inspired by Grammy award-winning artist Rosalía. The limited-edition, fiery-red shade honours the brand’s commitment to give back to the community, while looking hella good!
Read this excerpt from an exclusive interview with Rosalía, that will give you an insight on how this beautiful red shade came into being.
Cosmo: How does it feel to be part of Viva Glam?
Rosalía: “M.A.C has always been my favourite, so it’s an honour to be a part of this campaign and to be able to collaborate with them. The way the brand is using their platform, and how they have dedicated $10 million to 250 organisations on the frontlines and serving communities affected by COVID-19...there is nothing more important than to help. I feel very grateful and honoured to be a part of a campaign that is helping the world we are living in. It is also my goal and very important to me to help M.A.C spread awareness about the health and rights for women and girls.
My team is made up of women, and I feel like it’s very important that we always try to empower more women.”
Cosmo: How did you decide on the Viva Glam lipstick colour?
R: “I have always been very excited about red, it’s one of my favourite colours. It represents strength and the Flamenco culture. And I have always loved Ruby Woo! So I was very excited to create something special.”
Cosmo: What does beauty mean to you and has it been an empowering tool to you?
R: “Beauty can be expressed in so many ways. Beauty is being connected to who you really are and what your path is. There’s nothing more beautiful, attractive and inspiring to me than that.”
Cosmo: What is your relationship with make-up?
R: “Make-up has always been very important to me. It helps me feel stronger when I perform. It helps me perform differently...better! I feel like make-up is a way that I can communicate with myself and my fans.”
Cosmo: What is your first memory of make-up?
R: “When I used to experiment with make-up, I didn’t even know what I was doing, I was just having fun with my sister. We used to use my mom’s make-up! When I was a teenager, I used to do my make-up for my shows and getting ready was a ritual.”
C: What look do you go for, for a quick confidence boost?
R: “When I don’t have a lot of time, I always use red lip lipstick! Ruby Woo is one of my favorites, so combine that with my VG26 shade and it matches perfectly with my skin tone! If I have time, I also fill in my brows.”
C: What’s the most important thing to you as a performer?
R: “For me, it is always about strength. For instance, my mom, sister and grandma are very important to me. And, I look up to and admire past Viva Glam spokespeople like Lil’ Kim and Missy Elliott. I always try to find that strength and power when I perform on stage. I project myself and hope to inspire other women too.”
