5 Ways to Add Turmeric to Your Beauty Routine

The humble turmeric has always lurked in the pantry, flavouring and colouring our food. It has played an important role in Indian skincare rituals too since long. No wonder, celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Tara Sutaria turn to turmeric for glowing skin. Victoria Beckham too has revealed that she mixes turmeric powder with aloe vera to make a DIY face pack, while Gwyneth Paltrow drinks the golden ingredient brewed with milk. Turmeric is known to reduce scars, heal inflammation and rashes, boost the skin’s immunity as well as brighten and address pigmentation. Blossom Kochhar, founder of Blossom Kochhar Aroma Magic, suggests five ways to add the ingredient to your beauty routine for the gorgeous glow.  

1. Use it daily for a radiant glow

“Add a pinch of turmeric powder to your daily use lotions or moisturisers. With its antioxidant And anti-inflammatory properties, it helps reduce blemishes and effectively works to nourish the skin from inside out,” says  Blossom.

2. Scrape out dead skin on the lips

Turmeric can be applied as a lip scrub. It also does wonders to balance the pigmentation on your lips and the easiest way to use it is to “mix it well with lip balms or vaseline. The natural properties of turmeric will nourish your lips and make it smoother,” adds Blossom. 

3. It's effective for deep cleansing and brightening of the skin

Follow Priyanka Chopra’s advice, turmeric can work wonders when used as a face mask. She had revealed that she uses it along with chickpea flour, yoghurt, lemon, whole milk, sandalwood powder to make a DIY mask. You can do that too or as Blossom suggests, “Combine it with other natural ingredients like coconut oil and honey.  This will essentially help enhance your skin tone and also help in removing the blackheads”.

4. Use it to get rid of dark circles and puffy eye bags

“Mix it with essential oils or curd and apply it directly under the eyes for a few minutes. It will treat the affected area and will significantly reduce puffiness,” adds Blossom. 

5. Turmeric can brighten your makeup base  

Blossom suggests you brighten the shade of your foundation by adding a pinch of turmeric powder. “Make sure to blend the powder well with the foundation to get the perfect golden tone. Add according to your skin needs. When mixed with foundation, it gives a long-lasting lustre to your skin. However, it is best suited for people with wheatish or dusky skin tone as turmeric can be staining for people with lighter complexion,” she adds.
