7 Foods That Can Trigger Acne

Have you noticed sudden breakouts after eating a certain food type? Well, there is a reason behind the acne-attack that is related to your dietary habits.

"Any foods with a high glycemic index (GI) can potentially trigger acne. So, if you have a diet that is heavy in high glycemic index foods such as chips, potatoes and chocolates, it can cause breakouts. These high GI foods elevate hormones that increase the activity of oil glands in the skin, which makes the skin more prone to acne," says Dr Poorva Shah, dermatologist, Derma Centre - Skin, Hair and Laser Clinic.

A food's glycemic index is just a measure of how fast can it raise your body's blood sugar levels. So, high GI foods not only cause a spike in your skin's sebum production but a sudden rise in blood sugar levels can also cause inflammation also triggering acne.

So, here are Dr Shah's recommendations of food with high GI that you must reduce in your anti-acne diet.
