1. Removing polish with your nails
Sometimes you don't even realize and start removing the polish out of sheer boredom. Well, you're not just removing the nail polish but also harming the top layer of the nail-bed. It can make the nail weak. And who wants that?
2. Using acetone based removers
Nail polish removers that contain acetone, dehydrate the nail and surrounding cuticle. Regular use can also cause white spots on the nail. It is better to use an acetone-free remover if you change your nail polish quite often.
3. Not using base coats
Base coats don't just create a perfect foundation for a streak-free polish but also protect your natural nails. It makes your nail stronger and becomes a barrier between nail's natural oil and nail polish making it last longer.
4. Cutting your cuticles and biting your nails.
We agree those pointy cuticles can totally spoil your #nailfie, but still cutting them is not a good idea. And if you're thinking of biting off the cuticle, please don't because you'll end up leaving your skin vulnerable to infections from the open sores. Instead of dealing with dry and spiky cuticle, you can apply a cuticle oil. The oil softens your cuticles and makes it manageable and easier to push em back.
5. Filing nails in a back-and-forth motion.
Just like hair gets damaged by backcombing, filing in a back and forth motion also becomes the cause of splits in the nail. These tiny tears could turn into really big cracks over time. It's advisable to file the nails in just one direction.
