Suffer from Dandruff? It Could be Down to the Way You Wash Your Hair

Dandruff is bloody annoying. Because there's not much that's less attractive than looking like you've just come indoors from a particularly vicious snowstorm. And no matter how hard you lather on the Head & Shoulders, sometimes it just won't budge.

But new information from dermatologist Francesca Fusco, speaking to Women's Health, reveals what we might have been doing wrong all this time.

It's all well and good using an anti-dandruff shampoo, Francesca advised, but you're totally undoing all the good work if you use a regular conditioner.

"Unilever has done studies on this, and they found that when people use dandruff shampoo, specifically ones with zinc pyrithione, and they use a beauty conditioner afterwards they can rinse away up to 50 percent of the flake-fighting effects of the medicated shampoo," she said.

Which kind of makes sense. There's no point using a shampoo with anti-dandruff properties if you're only going to wash over the top of it with a completely normal conditioner. So it looks like there's only one thing for it if you want to remain flake-free: Head & Shoulders 2 in 1.

Because we can't afford to splash the cash on a specialist conditioner as well as a specialist shampoo. We're not Beyoncé rich.
