8 Hair Removal Hacks for Sensitive Skin Types

In a bid for smooth skin we can sometimes be left with redness, rashes and sore spots – ironic, huh? Yep, if you're not shaving properly your skin can become aggravated and dry.

To nip nicks in the bud and make shaving rashes a thing of the past, beauty therapist to the stars and skin expert for Venus, Nathalie Eleni, has shared her expert tips for smoother hair removal. Your sensitive skin won't bother you again...

1. Shave in the shower rather than a hot bath

Hot baths can make skin red before you even start.

2. Choose a razor suited to your skin needs

There are razors designed specifically for you. It should deliver a closer shave with less irritation, even on sensitive skin.

3. Exfoliate the day before

If you suffer with sore ingrown hairs ensure you have exfoliated the day before shaving to remove trapped hairs and dead skin.

4. Soak the skin first

Soaking for 2-3 minutes softens the hair and causes it to expand so that it is 60% easier to cut, however don't stay in the bath or shower for too long because this over-hydrates your skin, meaning you can't get such a close shave.

5. Work in panel sections

Avoid going over the same area more than once, instead work in panel sections the width of the razor, starting from the ankle to knee area, then from knee up to thigh.

6. The nick-trick

If you nick yourself whilst shaving soak a cotton pad in freezing cold water and press firmly over the cut, this will constrict capillaries and help stop bleeding. The cold will help prevent inflammation and quickly calm the skin.

7.Nourish skin with natural oils

If you do suffer from soreness after hair removal use natural oils such as coconut oil – this is incredibly healing and a great post shave medium for sensitive skins.

8. Heal rashes with honey

You can also use raw honey topically on any bumps or rashes which will soothe the skin and help take down any inflammation. Leave it on for 20 minutes then remove with luke warm water.
