Fashion Lessons We Could All Learn From Kate Middleton

1. Weigh down your skirts

Kate Middleton rarely steps out at a formal event in a skirt unless she's previously prepped it with some extra weight. Why? Well, the windy UK weather often creates a Marilyn Monroe moment or two and Kate really can't be caught on camera in a compromising position. Of course, you're probably less likely to be papped than Kate is but you just never know...

2. Recycling is chic

Sure, showing that you shop more than is in any way necessary may be fun for a bit but people will really start to respect your sense of style if you can prove your ability to reinvent a look for another occasion. Kate's ability to recycle is one of the reasons we all love her so.

3. Style your hair according to your earrings

Got a beautiful pair of hoops you want to try for your next occasion? Make like Kate and always remember to tuck your hair behind your ears or style it up in a 'do so people can appreciate your new bling.

4. Co-ordinate with your partner (or family) for big occasions

You may not have a red carpet event on your radar but Kate has proved that spending a bit of time working out how your outfit will fit with your boyfriend's (or husband/Prince/SO) is priceless. This is a great tip for weddings.

5. Find a decent tailor for your investment pieces

Sure, you've spent a lot of money on that coat and you want it to last you more than one season which is precisely why you should invest just a tiny bit more cash to ensure the perfect fit. Nothing off the rack will fit as well as something tailored to your body and with your extra special pieces, it's totally worth the investment.

6. Ignore the trends

OK so this one is a bit give and take - trends are there to be followed but they only ever last a season or two. For more expensive items, always try to channel your inner classic Kate and think if it's something you can wear in a couple of years time.

7. Basics are king

A stripey top, a pair of good-fitting jeans, a tailored blazer and a pair of neutral heels are in Kate's arsenal of go-to clothes that will literally never not look good.

8. Mix your labels

Kate has a glorious collection of designer threads that would make any girl weep with jealousy but she also knows when to stick with the humble high street. Just because you're wearing a Zara dress doesn't mean you can't carry a Gucci bag or a McQueen coat. Own it!

9. Wear one colour head to toe

Just make sure it's a hue to suit your skin tone and then pile on the accessories to match. Kate does this time and time again for a fun vibe that is still classy.

10. Sometimes all you need is a great coat

Especially in winter - who is going to see what you're wearing underneath anyway? Invest, invest, invest - and then stand back in enjoy the admiration.

11. A belt around the waist is nearly always flattering

Whether you want to add it over a dress, or select a coat with a cinched in waist shape, Kate has proved time and time again how flattering an extra bit of accessorising can be.

12. Hats, hats, hats.

Even tiaras and cowboy hats!
