’Tis a beautiful tale of romance and trolling.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are a ridiculously good-looking match made in internet troll heaven (not to be confused with internet troll hell). Eight years and a couple kids (almost three!) later, these two jokesters are still crazy in love, and frankly, I’m jealous. So let’s take a look back at how it all began and maybe pick up some ~relationship pointers~ along the way....
July 24, 2010
Blake and Ryan attend their first event together at Comic Con to promote their movie Green Lantern, and for some reason, they don’t dress in cos-play. As you can tell from this photo, they are super-duper adorable—but the catch? Ryan is still married to Scarlett Johansson.
September 2010
Shit is going down! Blake breaks up with her boyfriend and Gossip Girl costar Penn Badgley, but a source tells Us Weekly that “they’re still good friends and hang out on the set.” LOL, sure.
December 2010
More shit is going down! By which I mean Ryan and Scarlett end their marriage. Hmm, two breakups within mere months of each other? Coincidence? I THINK NOT. Sounds like something Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson would pull, if you ask me.
June 15, 2011
Ryan and Blake hit up the red-carpet premiere of Green Lantern and they look alllll kinds of cozy.
Sometime between June 2011 and October 2011
Blake and Ryan go on a double date, which he describes years later. And I don’t want to be dramatic, but this might be the best celebrity love story ever? “We were buddies then,” Ryan says. “I remember it was funny because for about a year after Green Lantern had come and gone and all that stuff, we were both single. We went on a double date. She was on a date with another guy, and I was on a date with another girl. That was the most awkward date [from their perspective] probably because we were just, like, fireworks coming across.”
But wait, there’s more! In a now-deleted Instagram post celebrating Ryan's birthday a few years back, Blake revealed the actual restaurant where they fell in love:
Ryan also opened up about this moment, telling GQ, “We were hanging out at this little restaurant in Tribeca that’s open really late, and this song came on and I was just like, ‘Want to dance?’ No one was in there, so it was just totally empty. And it was just one of those moments where halfway through the dance, it was like, ‘Oh, I think I just crossed a line.’ And then I walked her home. And, uh, you know, I don’t really need to go into what happened after that.”
October 22, 2011
Blake is spotted leaving Ryan’s apartment in Boston, and naturally, dating rumors begin to whip around in full force. Meanwhile, People claims the duo “are very much a couple” and “really happy together.”
December 12, 2011
Their relationship is pretty much undeniable when photos of the two of them holding hands after spending the holidays with Ryan’s family in Vancouver hit the internet. Consequently, Blake and Ryan spend the next year or so being hounded by the paps.
September 9, 2012
SURPRISE!!!!! Ryan and Blake shock everyone by getting married after just a year of dating. The wedding is super secret, but we know that it goes down at Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and that Blake wears a wedding gown by Marchesa.
May 5, 2014
Blake and Ryan attend their first Met Gala together as a married couple. Feelings of extreme jealousy are normal at this point, don’t stress.
October 6, 2014
Blake announces on her now-defunct website, Preserve (RIP), that she and Ryan are expecting their first baby.
October 20, 2014
A few months later, the duo hits up another red carpet—only this time, Blake is pregnant and positively ~glowing~.
Late December 2015
Blake and Ryan welcome their daughter James into the world “just before the New Year!” But FYI, we don’t find out her name until March, when Ryan tells the Today show: “It’s James. Everyone knows. I didn’t want to be the first guy screaming it out to the media, because as we know, little girls turn into teenage girls and little teenage girls sometimes scan through the archives and go, ‘Why did you do that?’” (FYI, James was named after Ryan’s father.)
Blake and Ryan casually attend the White House state dinner. What, you didn’t? Oh. Weird. Honestly, they look pretty surprised about it too.
April 14, 2016
Us Weekly reports that Blake is pregnant with baby number two after she’s seen sporting what *appears* to be a bump on the set of her movie The Shallows.
July 4, 2016
Blake and Ryan attend Taylor Swift’s annual Fourth of July party and this iconic photo is taken, lolololololololol.
Wow, Ryan clearly looks THRILLED to be there!
September 30, 2016
Page Six reports that Blake has given birth to her second baby, a little girl named Inez. At this point, she and Ryan are suuuper private about their kids, so no formal announcement is made.
December 15, 2016
Flash-forward a few months, and in a shocking twist, Blake and Ryan make their first public appearance with both their kids to celebrate Ryan’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In his speech, Ryan says, “I want to thank my wife, Blake, who is sitting right there, who is everything to me. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me. You make everything better. You make everything in my life better. You’ve given me two of the most incredible children I've ever hoped to have."
May 1, 2017
Ryan and Blake show up at the Met Gala together, looking like f*cking legends.
2017 to 2018
Ryan and Blake perfect the art of trolling each other. Priceless moments include her trolling him on his birthday:
For Blake’s 32nd birthday, Ryan decides to show her how much he loves her by posting an entire Instagram carousel of her most unflattering photos. What a lovely husband!
