"Being With The Right Person Puts Everything Else in Motion": Sonam Kapoor Ahuja

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja is in a happy place. Oh, and she is also in a very busy place. This year, at the 66th National Film Awards, Padman won the Best Film On Social Issues. She's travelling the world with her husband Anand Ahuja, the Founder of Bhane, and setting major #CoupleGoals on Instagram. And in between shooting for movies and globetrotting, she's managing to carve out time for her entrepreneurial venture: high-street label Rheson (co-founded with sister, stylist and producer Rhea Kapoor)

The Cosmo shoot has barely wrapped up, and Sonam has already sprinted to the changing room. She is late for her flight to Delhi, where she’s meeting her husband Anand. And if the couple’s social media posts are anything to go by, the two are inseparable. Recently, Sonam and Anand celebrated their first wedding anniversary. “It’s been beautiful!” Sonam gushes. “To have someone like Anand as a life partner is a blessing. I have never been happier!”

Over the last year, Sonam has been juggling multiple cities due to Anand’s work, which is mostly based out of Delhi and London, while her roots are in Mumbai. However, the long-distance marriage hasn’t impacted the couple’s relationship. If anything, it has only strengthened with time. “Life hasn’t changed much. Of course, I am more in love with him than ever before, but, in terms of work, it’s the same. We give each other’s work a lot of importance. So, we understand. Besides, we always make it a point to take time out for each other. On days we can’t, we have a mutual understanding. The key is effective and clear communication, which we always maintain,” says Sonam, who is visibly excited at the prospect of catching up with her husband after being away for days. As she prepares to leave, we ask her what her biggest takeaway from her relationship has been. She pauses for a few seconds, smiles, and says, “Being with the right person puts everything else in motion. Anand and I truly believe in empowering, loving, and supporting each other. The fact that I can be myself with him is the most important part of us."
