Hackers Have Stolen Loads of Celebrities' Data From an A-List Law Firm

A top law firm favoured by A-list stars, such as Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, Drake, Mariah Carey and Elton John, has been hit by cyber hackers – who say they're now holding a load of their clients' personal data ransom. Gulp.

The website for Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks is currently down and according to reports from the likes of the BBC, the hackers allege that they've amassed a whopping 756GB of data (to put that in perspective, the MacBook Air I'm writing this on has 8GB of memory in total), including contracts and personal email addresses.

Confirming the attack in a press statement, the New York law firm wrote: "We can confirm that we've been victimised by a cyber-attack. We have notified our clients and our staff. We have hired the world's experts who specialise in this area, and we are working around the clock to address these matters." Imagine having to make that call...

Said cybercriminals supposedly sent a screenshot of a contract they worked on involving Madonna and are now demanding payment in exchange of the details. Currently, the exact sum that they're demanding is unknown, ditto whether or not the Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks team are attempting to negotiate with them.

Drake could be amongst the victim of the cybersecurity attack

The cyber hackers have posted a screengrab showing multiple folders with certain clients' names on them too, including Nicki Minaj, Andre 300 and Mariah Carey. This is thought to be a common way that data thieves can show they're sadly not just bluffing.

Here's hoping that all the celebrities and other clients involved get this resolved quickly and painlessly.
