On 28th January 2021, the pop star had taken to social media to announce her pregnancy while flaunting her baby bump. The year before the singer had revealed that she suffered a miscarriage. "Here I am achieving this out-of-control life, and I can't do the one thing I'm biologically put on this earth to do. Then I have to go onstage and be this sex symbol of femininity and empowerment? It is demoralizing," she told Guardian

The then mom-to-be was seen sporting a bohemian-inspired look—a rainbow crochet-knit bikini with a pair of faded denim jeans. Her boyfriend and baby-daddy commented on the picture, saying, "So full, I love you, sweetness, I love you!!! And I love this mini human already." The pregnancy announcement photograph was captured by Sam Dameshek, a 21-year-old photographer.

A few weeks ago, Halsey launched the trailer of her IMAX debut film, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power’, ahead of her album. She also shared cover images of the album, which she claimed to highlight "the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth." Elucidating on this concept, she wrote, "The idea that me as a sexual being and my body as a vessel and gift to my child are two concepts that can co-exist peacefully and powerfully. My body has belonged to the world in many different ways the past few years, and this image is my means of reclaiming my autonomy and establishing my pride and strength as a life force for my human being. This cover image celebrates pregnant and postpartum bodies as something beautiful, to be admired. We have a long way to go with eradicating the social stigma around bodies & breastfeeding. I hope this can be a step in the right direction."
