Here’s what happened when Kim K and Khloé Kardashian spoke about tiny waists and weight loss

The hit reality TV show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians (KUWTK) that started nearly 15 years ago, and has now ventured into The Kardashians has, since given us more than just a glimpse into the lives of the Kardashian siblings. From surrogacy experiences, to salad dates, and sibling conflicts, the women of the Kardashian-Jenner clan have never shied away from sharing their personal experiences and expressing their vulnerability on screen and with their fans on social media. However, ardent followers of the show and family are now increasingly boycotting the show owing to a triggering storyline: Kim and Khloé Kardashian’s weight loss journeys and their obsession over being skinny.

In this week’s episode of KUWTK, we watched the pair prepare for the 2022 Met Gala held earlier this year in the month of May. The episode features behind-the-scenes footage of a dress fitting where the designer is seen telling that Khloé that she has a “tweensy” waist, with measurements tinier than a model. Another clip showed Kim wearing a corset and commenting that ‘you don’t need to breathe.’ This infuriated the fans who took to social media to point out just how triggering some of the scenes were.

While many tweets were criticising the content of the episode, several fans also took to social media to encourage Khloe to come out of her body insecurities and anxiety.

Some also came to Khloé's defence arguing that life in the public eye was difficult and commented on TikTok stating, "I think she can be happy about it, if she has struggled with being overweight her entire life, she can be happy that she has worked to be how she’s now.” In a recent interview, the mom of two opened up about her relationship with food and her body and how she tried nearly every diet under the sun until she decided to adopt a complete change in her lifestyle.

As for Kim, when she received backlash for dropping 16lbs in two weeks to fit into the Marilyn Monroe gown, she argued that if it was completely acceptable and normal for a male actor like Christian Bale to get fit for a role in a film, it was completely acceptable for her, too, and that she wasn’t advocating viewers to lose this kind of weight in such a short period of time.

At a time when people across the globe, including celebrities such as Ashley Graham and Anne Hathaway are increasingly speaking about body image issues, fatphobia, and insecurities, the turn taken by the reality TV show seems odd and appears to have provoked and triggered a large fan base into speaking out against unrealistic body sizes as well as eating disorders.
