Huma Qureshi talks about how OTT platforms are helping shatter gender stereotypes

We just couldn’t take our eyes off Huma Qureshi, who was absolutely marvellous as the femme-fatale Monica in Monica, O My Darling. Be it on screen or off the camera, the actor radiates warmth and energy around her that is every bit infectious. No prizes for guessing that she was all smiles and laughs when we, Cosmopolitan India, caught up with the star at the India Today Conclave 2022 in Mumbai and in a quick fire chat got to learn a lot about her. Excerpts.

Cosmopolitan India: Which are your top three films of all time?

Huma Qureshi: It is tough to choose, but I’d say The Pursuit of Happyness. That’s a film I can watch anytime, along with Andaz Apna Apna and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

Cosmopolitan India: What do you think is the contribution of OTT in shattering gender stereotypes?

Huma Qureshi: Oh my God, OTT has been amazing, especially for an actor like me. It really helps me when I do web series as I explore more than what a film would allow me to do. In terms of storytelling, we’re able to fit concepts and themes which aren’t deemed as theatrical or conventional. It’s also opened a new audience base and is a win-win situation for everyone—the artist as well as the viewer.

Cosmopolitan India: What’s the one piece of advice that you’d give to your 18-year-old self?

Huma Qureshi: Don’t take yourself so seriously, chill a little, as it’s all going to work out in the end.

Cosmopolitan India: What are you watching these days?

Huma Qureshi: I’m watching Double XL right now.

Cosmopolitan India: What do you like to do to unwind?

Huma Qureshi: Sleep.

Cosmopolitan India: What’s your comfort food?

Huma Qureshi: Carbs. And that would mean bread, butter and tea. I think there’s something divine about bread and butter. It’s the food of the Gods, really.
