From Shirley Setia to Aditya Seal, celebs share their New Year resolutions

May we be better, stronger and happier.

As we inch closer towards the end of the year, dusty journals are taken out, cups of coffee are made and we take time out from a heavily filled social calendar to reflect on the year that has been and envision the year that is to come. The feeling is the perfect blend of nostalgia and excitement. We look forward to making changes within ourselves and beyond, having a fresh start, making mindful choices and ever-aspiring to be a better, happier, healthier and stronger version of ourselves. This year, we chose to seek inspiration from artists, musicians, actors and filmmakers. We asked celebrities, from Tisca Chopra to Karan Kundra about their resolutions for 2023—and we loved every bit of it. Take this as your reminder to act on your goals and vision—believe in them and manifest those dreams.

“So, I don’t really do New Year’s resolutions. I believe that you don’t need to enter a New Year to make resolutions and to be better person or better version of yourself, you can do it any day of the year. But if I were to give one, I think one of the main things for me— is to listen more and talk less. That’s definitely something I’m working on and have to let go of all the negativity around me.”

“My new year's resolution for 2023, is to be a better fitter healthier version of myself. I want to be a more physically active and healthy version of myself. You are what you eat, thus it is best to eat healthy at work and elsewhere. And also hopefully start yoga!”

“My resolution for 2023 is more of growth. I am open to all new opportunities in my personal & professional life. I look forward to upskilling myself and also I have immense gratitude for my online family who's always been there for me since day one.”

"The new year is a super time to reset, so I start making a list from mid-December. This year I want to give up processed sugar completely and start one raw food day a week. My parents have moved to Mumbai, so I want to spend more time with them. Work-wise, I want to direct a feature film and finish a few scripts that are in my head. And I want to go to Mexico on a solo trip…”

"Well, I’m not really a resolution person. I mean you don’t need a mahurat to decide something and abide by it. However, the plan for me is to be a better person, more focused and most importantly, to give myself more time this New Year.”

“I always end the year and will start the New Year with gratitude. My hands are folded, for I have met some amazing people who have filled my heart with hope and encouragement. I am happy I got to work on some credible projects. I am not a person who is crazy behind resolutions, so I take life as it comes and go about solving the challenges from the experiences I have had so far.

Also, it is important to acknowledge that this holiday season has been challenging for many. My heart goes out to those people who have lost jobs across the world. I hope and pray that they find the courage to cope and know to continue to stay in their light. It is easy to give in to negativity and comparisons. In such cases, friends and family should come together to support each other and be there during tough times. That's the right spirit of celebrating life. Nothing is permanent.”

“My only resolution is to keep breaking all the glass ceilings that exist above me. To write and direct films that stir me up and that feed the passions in me and that keep the artist me alive and if this means that I have to push boundaries and that I have push buttons, my own and anyone else’s, then so be it. As long as my work is reflecting my truth, I feel I will have accomplished what I have set out to do in 2023.

Talking about boundaries, I want also to make a resolution to keep my own boundaries in place and not allow anyone to trespass on them, personally or professionally. Kindness, compassion and tolerance are great as long as one is not short selling themselves or getting taken advantage of. This is something I have to achieve in 2023.”

“I have not been in the best physical shape in the last two years. This year’s resolution is to be the fittest I have ever been. Secondly, I want to travel more this year—it changes my perspective towards life. Finally, be a lot less involved in the virtual world and a lot more in the real world.”

“For me, 2023 will be all about raising new bars for myself and my music. My resolution for the coming year is to work even harder, create even better and celebrate life throughout the year. I will be focusing solely on my art and how to enhance the experience of my audience through my music.”
